45 Halloween Movies for Kids

This is a list of Halloween movies for kids so that you can be set for the holiday with some fun family time. For my house, every year we spend together watching our favorite movies about the holiday before we go trick or treat together.

Despite being a rather spooky celebration, kids absolutely love Halloween! Halloween means much more than trick-or-treating, wearing scary and imaginative costumes, carving pumpkins, or decorating your home.

It is an excellent opportunity to spend quality family time, get to know your neighbours, and have infinite fun. But Halloween wouldn’t be complete without watching Halloween movies.

From mild to terrifying, we have worked on a selection of Halloween movies that is sure to get that adrenaline pumping!  Ready for some family Halloween fun?

1. Casper (2014)

Synopsis: James Harvey (Bill Pullman), an afterlife specialist, and his teenage daughter Kat (Christina Ricci) move into a haunted mansion that they are supposed to free from the wicked spirits. This is where they get to bond with Casper (Malachi Pearson), a young and friendly ghost who rapidly falls in love with Kat.   However, Casper’s uncles – Stretch, Fatso, and Stinkie – are far from being friendly. Their attempts to chase humans away make this movie fun and thrilling to watch. 

2. Goosebumps (2015)

Synopsis: A mix of humour, spookiness, and charm, Goosebumps tells the story of the young Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) who moves to a small town and meets Hannah (Odeya Rush), a beautiful teenager who happens to be the daughter of R.L. Stine (Jack Black). Hannah’s father is the author of the famous `Goosebumps` fantastic tales series. The adventure starts when Zach accidentally releases the monsters from the tales. Now Stine, Hannah, and Zach must find a way to make the beasts return to the books.

4. The Witches (1990)

Synopsis: Young Luke, who is staying at a hotel with his grandmother, Helga, accidentally witnesses a convention of witches. It is up to Luke the Mouse, his grandma, and Mr. Stringer (the hotel manager) to hinder the witches’ plan. 

5. Hocus Pocus (1993)

6. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)

Synopsis: On Halloween 1968, a group of three teenagers – Stella, Auggie, and Chuck – meet the mysterious Ramón Morales. As the kids decide to spend the night at the Bellows family’s haunted house, Stella finds the sinister book of bloody stories written by the famous Sarah Bellows. Stella decides to take the book home. But she will soon realize that Sarah keeps writing horror stories. Will the kids be able to stop her?  

7. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998)

Synopsis: The famous gang reunites and embarks on an adventure on Moonscar Island, a remote place that is holding a dark secret. This time, instead of bad guys hiding behind masks, the gang faces real monsters! 

8. Monsters Inc. (2001)

Synopsis: The action takes place in Monstropolis, a city populated entirely by monsters and powered by the energy from kid’s screams. What will happen when the young girl Boo enters the monster world?

The Halloween party is the best opportunity for Dracula to test his skills.
